Prof. Sergio Amadori was Director of the Division of Hematology at the Tor Vergata University Hospital in Rome from 2005 to 2016.

Prof. Sergio Amadori graduated magna cum laude in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Rome La Sapienza in 1971. He became a specialist in Hematology at the University of Rome La Sapienza in 1974. In 1983, he became a specialist in Pediatrics at the University of Florence. In 1990 and 1994, he became a Professor of Hematology at the University of Rome La Sapienza and the University of Rome Tor Vergata respectively. 

His main areas of research are on the diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic aspects of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Prof. Amadori is strongly involved in the clinical research activities on the development of innovative therapeutic approaches for AML care. He actively participates in international therapeutic studies and is responsible for the co-ordination of national therapeutic protocols within the GIMEMA Co-operative Group.

Prof. Amadori has authored over 300 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He was the Chair of the EORTC Leukemia Group from 2003 to 2005 and the President of the Italian Society of Hematology from 2004 to 2009. Currently, Prof. Amadori is the President of the GIMEMA Foundation and Chair of the GIMEMA Acute Leukemia Working Party and is an active member of numerous scientific societies including, Italian Society of Experimental Hematology (SIES), American Society of Hematology (ASH), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the American Society for Cancer Research (AACR).
