Uwe Platzbecker is the Professor for Translational Hematology at the University Hospital “Carl Gustav Carus” in Dresden, Germany. He is also a Transcampus Professor of Hematology at the Faculty of Science and Medicine, King’s College London, United Kingdom.
In 1996, Prof. Uwe Platzbecker graduated from medical school at the University Hospital “Carl Gustav Carus”, TU Dresden. He proceeded to complete a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle. In 2012, he became a Professor of Translational Hematology at TU Dresden. His main areas of interest are in the translational exploration of innovative treatment options for patients with hematological malignancies including MDS and AML involving the use of allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.
Prof. Uwe Platzbecker is the Chair of the medical ethics committee of the TU Dresden. He is also the co-founder and the chairman of the European MDS Studies Coordination Office (EMSCO) and the co-chairman MDS EHA SWG.
Prof. Uwe Platzbecker has over 180 publications and his is a member of several societies including Deutsche Gesellschaft für Hämatologie und Onkologie (DGHO), American Society of Hematology (ASH), European Haematology Association (EHA), Study Alliance Leukemia (SAL), Deutsch-Österreichisch-Schweizerische MDS Studiengruppe (DACH), European Leukemia Net (ELN) and the Gesellschaft für Thrombose und Hämostaseologie (GTH).
